‘UK banks stand up to the stress test’ by Steve Pateman, Head of UK Corporate and Commercial Banking
“Last week saw the Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS) publish the outcome of the stress tests that they have conducted on the capital strength of over 90 major financial institutions. These tests have factored in the ability of the banking sector to withstand a series of market shocks, from a sustained economic downturn to a significant increase in sovereign risk. Much has already been written on the format, approach, results and comparatives, particularly in the context of a similar stress test exercise in the US last year. And whilst it's easier to throw stones than use them to lay solid foundations, we now have a very clear view of the relative strength of the major banks in Europe..."
