Norman, Susan and daughter Elaine have owned and operated Phoenix Cottages since 1999.
During 2008 they also built and registered “The Lodge” on land adjacent to the cottages.
The business provides a homely environment for its residents, many of whom have considered Phoenix Cottages their home from home for many years.
Both nearing retirement age, Mr and Mrs Boyd decided to sell the business but were mindful of the ‘family’ nature of their service and liaised for some time with Anita Allen of DC Care prior to formally taking the decision to market the business.
Whilst there were numerous interested parties, the Boyd family felt that following lengthy discussions with David Astill Harrison of Heathcotes Group, this company would continue the business and expand it further.
Heathcotes Group provides care within the Leicester, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire areas. Heathcotes Group operates 10 LD and 5 homes for the elderly throughout these areas.
Heathcotes Group provides bespoke care within a residential setting for Young Adults with Learning Disability with complex needs in a caring and secure environment.
David Astill Harrison commented: “We are delighted with this latest acquisition which fits within our group both by way of the geographical location and the nature of the client group within Phoenix Cottages. I am also delighted that in addition to acquiring a business we have offered a new position within the Heathcotes Group to Elaine Boyd and we look forward to her joining us soon.”
As a vendor Mr Norman Boyd said “It was a very big step for us, as a family, to take - selling a specialist care home when both the residents and staff have been known to us for many years; it is very emotional. I am glad to say that with Anita’s guidance and that of our other professional advisors we managed the sales process without too many issues. I would like to thank DC Care and Anita in particular – her support and professional advice has been invaluable. When you establish and operate this sort of business it is not just a straightforward property sale; there are many concerns to take into account and when retiring you need to consider everything. We did speak to other agents within the sector but we are delighted with the level of personal service we have received and I would wholeheartedly recommend DC Care.”
